Jessica Shirey, Team Reporter December 12, 2010 WILLIAMSPORT - Clearfield’s Shane Peters (103, 12) and Christian Stone (112, 10) clinched back-to-back gold while four teammates medaled en route the team’s seventh place finish Saturday night at Williamsport’s Top Hat Tournament. Peters, who has recorded finishes of second (2009-10) and seventh (2008-09), saw his finale turn golden with a 14-5 major over Logan Feeser (South Western, 10). Stone then followed suit in the next championship bout, defeating David Sheeley, (Mifflinburg, 11), 8-5. Peters and Stone scored falls in the semis for a berth to the finals. Peters needed only 43 seconds to dispose of Bald Eagle Area sophomore Travis Giedroc while Stone decked Ryan Griffiths (Schuylkill Valley, 11) at the 3:14 mark. In addition, both Bison opponents, Feeser and Sheeley, pinned their way to the tournament’s finals. Feeser (103) decked Dalton Reiman (Montoursville, 10, 1:03) and Mitch Moran (Penfield, 10, 0:30). Sheeley (112) posted six against Shane Olson (Elizabethtown, 9, 5:23) and Brandon Yohn (Muncy, 12, 5:17). He was a seventh placewinner in the Class AA state tournament last season. He also finished with a 33-9 overall record. Clearfield’s Derek Danver (171, 12) and Nolan Barger (130, 10) dropped to the bottom bracket after semifinal losses. However, both would rebound with decisions to reach the tournament’s top four. Danver snuck by Rustin Lehr (Red Lion, 11), 3-1 before edging Jake Burnside (Titusville, 12), 4-2, for his bronze medal. In Saturday morning’s championship round, the Bison came up short, 4-2, to Bald Eagle Area sophomore Jake Taylor. Barger also pulled out a 3-1 decision over Zach Koenig (Penfield, 12) for his consolation final spot, where he met ninth-ranked Leroy Harman (Williamsport, 11) in a re-match from last year’s post-season. Harman pinned the Bison at the 2:24 mark in the first round of the consolations at last season’s state tournament in Hershey. Harman didn’t medal but still finished his year with a 27-7 overall record. But this time around, Barger only surrendered a 6-0 decision to finish fourth for the tournament. In the semis, the Bison was the victim of a 19-3 technical fall (3:49) to South Western senior Cameron Throckmorton. Throckmorton, a three-time state medalist, was the tournament’s eventual champion and outstanding wrestler at 130 pounds. He’s currently ranked fourth in the state and has a career record of 103-11. Throckmorton placed fourth at the state tournament as a freshman at 103 pounds. However, he finished sixth as a sophomore at 119 pounds, and he was fifth last year at 125 pounds. Bison Andrew Hill (145, 12) and Dylan Graham (119, 10) finished fifth and sixth, respectively. Clearfield returns to action at home against the DuBois Beavers Tuesday night. The dual meet is scheduled to get under way at 7 p.m. at the Arthur J. Weiss Sr. Gymnasium. Back to Top Hat Clearfield Results
